Yes, They are real questions actually sent to Dear Abby. Honest. Read ‘em carefully.

What can I do about all the sex, nudity and violence on my VCR?

I have a man I can’t trust. He cheats so much I’m not even sure the baby I’m carrying is his. What should I do?

I am a 23 year old liberated woman. I have been on the pill for 2 years. It’s expensive and I think my boyfriend should share half the cost, but I don’t know him well enough to discuss money with him.

Well, if you think these are funny, you should see and hear some of the questions I get! Look, that Leno/Jay-Walking stuff is real, not rigged. Morons are on the loose, and at all demographic levels too. Never underestimate the ignorance…

  1. So Dan are you saying that we should listen to the same inane questions over and over again or rather create products that answer the inane questions asked over and over again?

    That’s what it sounds like to me. If you listen to talk radio programs, or any programs where people ask for advice, it seems like people ask about the same problems.

    Whether it’s getting out of debt or losing weight, if you listen long enough you may notice recurring themes in the answers given.

    If that’s the case, the real challenge seems to be how we can create positive, lasting change.

    Ha – I love these questions!

    I suppose there are always going to be questions out there (stupid as well as thoughtful) as long as there are people with different levels of experience.

    For example, the question “I have a man I can’t trust. He cheats so much I’m not even sure the baby I’m carrying is his. What should I do?” is quite brilliant, in a very dim sort of way.

    It points out a lack of knowledge at a level that the actual question is hard to understand. Does she want advice about her boyfriend or the baby?

    She clearly needs to learn some of the basics of life. Where this exists, there is opportunity for someone to provide this information in whatever manner they believe to be appropriate (and profitable).

  4. I think the deeper lesson here is not so much about listening to inane questions day in day out but the following:

    1. Build a platform (personal brand, column, website, show, etc) and they will come.
    2. After they come, they will attract voyeurs to read, listen, watch, etc.
    3. As they watch, listen, read, etc…they may keep watching for 20 years and make you fabulously wealthy.
    4. Learn how to create “voyeur-friendly” marketing regardless of the medium (newspaper, radio, tv, social media, direct mail, etc).
